I picked this hotel partly because I was traveling with some mobility-impaired family members and it has elevators. I was pleased to discover that it has a lot more to offer than just that. The hotel was recently established in an old police station, and they kept some of the beautiful traditional tiles from the station in the lobby. They did a phenomenal job of mixing old and modern together that managed to convey the history of the place while maintaining the highest level of comfort. The lobby and the breakfast room were both light and airy. Our hotel room had lovely view of the garden, red tile roofs, a bit of the cable car, and houses across the river. Breakfast was delicious with quite a few hot and cold options. But we also had breakfast one morning a 4 minute walk down the hill at 7g, which was excellent. The location of this hotel is fabulous, by the way. While it's further away from some of the main sights, the view from our side was stunning, both during the day and at night.

We were pleased to have chosen a hotel on the South bank (Gaia). The north, city side was still very busy and noisy in late October. The Caleway was near to World or Wine (WoW) and many of the Port Warehouses. We visited Taylors, which was well laid out and interesting. The hotel is also within easy walking range of good riverside restaurants towards the bridges. It is an easy 15 minute walk to N side, if you must. What we really liked about the Caleway was its architectural style. Our 2nd floor room had good views over tiled rooves to the skyline of the city N of the river. Breakfast was a good spread: Cereals, scrambled egg, bacon, mushrooms and tomatoes, or cheeses and cold meats, if required. Mini-croissants and pastel de nata not to be missed, if you have room! Bathrooms all clean. Coffee machine in the room not to my liking, but cold milk and a kettle provided on request. Just dont be put off by the unprepossessing street entrance. Its like Narnia once inside.

The Hotel is located in the old town close to the riverside in old Gaia. The direct neighbourhood might be a bit disappointing, but once you pass through the old, somewhat shabby looking entrance door, you'll find yourself in a different world. Reception and longe area are a beautiful composition of old old stone walls and modern elements, while the rooms are in a new and modern 3 story building with a view to WOW and old city of Porto. All in all a really cozy place, really quiet with all the amenities you might need for a 6 day stay. Breakfast was buffet style, not overly splendid but permanently refurbished and absolutely sufficient getting you ready for your adventures. Staff was always very friendly, forthcoming and ready to help.

We really enjoyed the beautiful and quiet garden, and the beautiful interior of the hotel. And the location was perfect: not in Porto itself but on the other side, in peaceful Vila Nova de Gaia. But in walking distance from everything. The staff was very nice, very helpful, very professional. We mentioned to the staff, that some people (we) have parfume allergies, and that the washing powder is heavily perfumed. This is a general issue in hotels world wide, and this use of perfume in the surroundings is absolutely unessesary, and forces people to be exposed to it. (In my opinion it shoulf be regarded the same way as exposure to smoke). The staff immediately accommodated us on this.

This hotel is exceptional. Impeccably presented and clean. Quiet and we felt as if we were the only guests! And the views from our room (R) we're beyond compare. I could barely believe my eyes as I swept back the curtains and stepped out onto the little balcony, a view of Porto must be unmatched. Beautiful linens on a perfectly comfortable, quality bed. Everything was great quality, down to the coffee in the coffee machine and the nicely scented hotel toiletries. I wish we could have stayed longer and I'm dying to go back a soon as possible!
